It is the patron shrine of the Sanno Matsuri, Takayama's spring festival, when twelve decorated floats (屋台) parade on 14 and 15 April, accompanied by mechanical puppets (からくり) and lion dances, with the lanterns lit on the floats in the evening. Together with the autumn Hachiman Matsuri, it entered the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2016 as ‘Yama, Hoko, Yatai’.
