It is the shrine of the Furukawa Matsuri: a giant drum crosses the town on 19 April.
It is the principal shrine of the Furukawa Matsuri (19–20 April), whose highlight is the Okoshi Daiko: from 20:30 on 19 April a giant drum mounted on a platform is fought over by teams of bare-chested young men, preceded by a lantern procession that crosses the town until after midnight. Like Takayama's Sanno Matsuri, it was added in 2016 to the UNESCO ‘Yama, Hoko, Yatai’ list.
An ancient shrine fourteen minutes' walk from Hida-Furukawa Station.
ℹ️ The shrine is always accessible; the Okoshi Daiko is held only on the night of 19 April, in the streets of central Furukawa.
