800 metres of white sand, among the first 88 beaches chosen by the Environment Agency.
On the west coast of Ikuchijima Island, in the middle of the Shimanami Kaidō, 800 metres of white sand slope gently into a calm sea, sheltered by the Seto Inland Sea; the name comes from the sunsets seen from here, among the most cited on the whole Shimanami Kaidō. Besides swimming, there is kayaking and SUP, plus a campsite and bicycle hire.
A public beach on the west coast of Ikuchijima, with a park and bathing facilities. It was one of the beaches chosen for the list of the ‘88 famous beaches of Japan’ by the then Environment Agency (now the Ministry of the Environment).
ℹ️ Always accessible; showers, changing rooms and restaurant open during the swimming season (roughly July–August). Check the seasonal hours on the Onomichi municipality website.
