The name comes from a bridge that no longer exists, where, according to tradition, men heading for the Maruyama red-light district stopped to decide whether to carry on or turn back. The alley, once a post-war black market nicknamed the ‘harmonica yokochō’ because its spaces were so narrow, is now home to over 60 venues along a stone street lit in the evening by about 200 paper lanterns.
A pedestrian alley in the heart of Nagasaki's entertainment district, almost deserted by day and lively in the evening with izakaya and restaurants specialising in champon and local dishes.
ℹ️ Always accessible; the venues open mainly in the evening, and the atmosphere is best after sunset.
