33 historic buildings moved from around Shikoku; the gallery alongside them is by Tadao Ando.
Over about 50,000 square metres on the lower slopes of the Yashima plateau, thirty-three buildings from the Edo and Taishō periods (farmhouses, storehouses and more) are scattered along the route. A thatched farmhouse is home to a restaurant serving handmade udon; a residence from Kobe has become a tea room. The Shikoku Mura Gallery, with paintings, sculptures and Oriental art, closes the route.
An open-air museum on the slopes of Mount Yashima, in Takamatsu, that brings together traditional buildings from all over Shikoku to preserve the memory of how they were built: the thirty-three buildings were dismantled in their home villages and reassembled here stone by stone. The Shikoku Mura Gallery, which stands beside them, is by Tadao Ando.
