Twelve bronze rabbits on the lawn: touching the second one is said to bring luck.
Opened in 1999 on the shore of Lake Shinji, the museum has a low profile and undulating lines that evoke a beach, designed not to compete with the sunset over the lake, one of the ‘hundred best sunsets in Japan’. From March to September it stays open until 30 minutes after sunset. On the lawn in front of the entrance, twelve bronze rabbits by the sculptor Yabuchi Satoshi face west: local tradition has it that touching the second one from the front brings luck.
The largest art museum in the San'in region, with the theme ‘harmony with water’: the collection includes works depicting water.
