The Kakuenbo granite monolith rises almost vertically for about 180 metres above the water.

For about 5 kilometres, from Nagatoro Bridge to Sengataki Falls, the Arakawa River has carved granite walls into pointed and arched shapes, among them Kakuenbo, a monolith that rises almost vertically for about 180 metres, and the Stone Gate, a natural arch. Sengataki Falls, one of the hundred most beautiful waterfalls in Japan, is also served by a 5-minute ropeway up to the viewpoint on Mount Yazadake.

Gorge designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty (特別名勝) in 1953 under the official name Mitake Shōsenkyō, in the northern part of the Kōfu Basin along the upper course of the Arakawa River.

ℹ️ The path is always accessible and free. Bus from Kōfu (about 45 minutes) to the waterfall area. Ropeway: April–November 9:00–17:30, December–March 9:00–16:30, fee charged.
