In 2013 CNN put it among the hundred best beaches in the world: a kilometre of sand.

The sand is ash grey and volcanic, and the water is calmer than on the rest of the Shōnan coast because the bay is sheltered: that is why families come here rather than surfers. The stretch is about a kilometre long and ends at the red Ringyō Bridge. In good weather Fuji sinks behind the sea. ⚠️ There is only one toilet, behind the lifeguard station, and it has no baby-changing table.

A beach in Hayama, near the imperial villa, with a view of Mount Fuji on clear days.

ℹ️ Free entry. ⚠️ Only one toilet, behind the lifeguard station, with no baby-changing table. You take your rubbish away with you, nappies included: there are no bins. Keikyū bus from Zushi. The Hayama Museum of Modern Art and Shiosai Park are a few hundred metres away, one on each side. The Isshiki fireworks are on 23 July at 19:30, and there are four hundred and eighty of them.
