Murakushi Shore (windsurfing beach)

No sand: you get into the water from a ladder on the embankment, and 50 m out you can still touch the bottom.

Here the shore of Lake Hamana has no sand: you get into the water by a ladder resting against the embankment, and fifty metres out the water is still a metre, a metre and a half deep. In summer people swim here; the rest of the year the shore belongs to windsurfers, because of the north-westerly wind that blows down over the lake in winter, the dry Enshū wind (遠州のからっ風).

The shore lies on the southern tip of the Shōnai Peninsula, west of Hamanako Garden Park, on reclaimed land. Old guides describe it as a bathing beach without sand, with summer kiosks and swimming from a ladder on the embankment. In recent lists of the lake's supervised beaches (the 2023 one from iN HAMAMATSU counts Bentenjima, Kanzanji, and the two at Kosai) Murakushi no longer appears, and no opening announcement can be found for 2025 or 2026. The shallow bottom and the steady wind have made it one of the windsurfing spots on the lake, with a school open all year round.

ℹ️ Free access, free car park and public toilets on the shore; no showers or kiosks stated, and no lifeguard confirmed. Entetsu bus from Hamamatsu Station towards Kanzanji-Murakushi to the ‘村櫛海岸’ bus stop, about 60 minutes, then 10 minutes on foot; by car, about 12 minutes from the Kanzanji smart interchange. On the shore, the Wind Village school (blue WINDS171 building) runs trial windsurfing lessons all year round, from 6,600 yen for half a day. From March 2026, collecting clams and other shellfish in the cooperative's fishing area on the lake is prohibited.
