20 metres in circumference, estimated at 3,000 years old: the seventh largest tree in Japan.
A camphor tree in the grounds of Takeo Shrine, 30 metres tall with a crown 30 by 33 metres wide and a trunk 20 metres in circumference: seventh place in the national ranking of great trees. At the base, gnarled roots that recall an elephant's feet surround an inner hollow of about 20 m², large enough to hold twelve tatami. Between 1994 and 2003 work was carried out to consolidate the ground and reinforce the interior with steel tie rods.
Natural Monument of Saga Prefecture since 15 July 1970, and sacred tree of Takeo Shrine.
ℹ️ In the grounds of Takeo Shrine, free entry.
