Opened in 1958, the pedestrian tunnel runs under the Kanmon Strait, the short stretch of sea that separates the islands of Kyushu and Honshu. It is the only place in Japan where an undersea prefectural border can be crossed entirely on foot, linking Moji, in the municipality of Kitakyushu (Fukuoka), with Shimonoseki, in Yamaguchi.
ℹ️ Open from 6:00 to 22:00; crossing on foot is free (bicycles pay 20 yen). The marker shows the Moji end, on the Fukuoka side.
