Ninety-one red torii follow one another along the flight of steps that climbs to the shrine.
As you climb the steps you pass under ninety-one torii (the red gateways that mark the entrance to a Shinto sacred place), lined up one behind the other, up to the small shrine at the top. From there the view opens onto the farmland plain of Ukiha. In spring the cherry trees blossom along the steps.
A small shrine dedicated to Inari (稲荷, a Shinto deity associated with rice and prosperity, whose shrines can be recognised by their rows of red torii), known above all for the flight of torii-lined steps that leads up to it.
