About 150 buildings from Edo to early Shōwa, in igura style: white rammed-earth storehouses.
Walking the streets of the district, you come across about 150 buildings built between the Edo period (until 1868) and the beginning of the Shōwa period (from 1926), in the igura style: storehouses with a rammed-earth structure, plastered white. Many of the merchants' houses follow the narrow, deep plan known as the ‘eel's bed’ (unagi no nedoko).
The district lies in the historic centre of Yame and has been recognised as a 重要伝統的建造物群保存地区 (Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings) since 2002.
