Opened in 1964 by a scholar: the traps in the ninja house are real, not stage sets.
A real ninja house, with its escape mechanisms (floors that creak on purpose, stairs that flip over, panels that open at one point only if you know where it is), greets you as you enter, even before the display cases of weapons and tools. At the end of every year, staff dressed as kunoichi (female ninja) symbolically clean the roof in a ceremony that has become the museum's own tradition, not an ancient rite.
Founded in 1964 as a house museum by the scholar Okuse Heishichirō, it took its current name and form in 1998 and official registration as a museum in 2008. It includes an experience room with tools and weapons, and a history room with documentaries on ninja techniques.
ℹ️ Tickets: adults ¥1,000, children ¥700 (April 2025); live shows by the Asura troupe and shuriken throwing are charged separately. In the park of Iga Ueno Castle, 10 minutes' walk from Ueno-shi Station on the Iga Railway.
