In 1951 a half-arcade on Kajimachi Street; then neon signs in Renjaku and Tamachi.
Kajimachi is a shopping street in the city centre, between Sakanamachi and ZaZa City. In 1951 a half-arcade was built on Kajimachi-dōri, and neon signs later spread to the shopping streets of Renjaku and Tamachi as well.
The name (鍛冶, kaji, ‘ironworking’) dates back to the Edo period, when the castle town's blacksmiths worked here. Today it shares the same blocks with the names Sakanamachi and Yūrakugai: three names with no clear boundaries for the same area of shops and evening venues, which is also home to the Shusse Yokochō.
ℹ️ It is a public shopping street, open to walk along at any time, with no building that has its own opening hours. The venues along it keep shop hours or evening izakaya hours, depending on the case. In the centre of Hamamatsu, a few minutes on foot from the JR station.
