The main statue can be seen two days a year: 17 and 18 April, and that is all.
The kondō dates from the early fifteenth century and is the leading example of the mixed style, where Japanese carpentry and Zen carpentry imported from China sit in the same building without clashing. Inside is a Nyoirin Kannon that is a National Treasure and stays shut away all year: it is opened on 17 and 18 April, and on those two days entry is in staggered groups.
Founded in 701 by En no Gyōja and refounded by Kūkai as a place of practice for the Shingon school. The kondō has been a National Treasure since 29 March 1953. It is also the temple associated with Kusunoki Masashige.
ℹ️ Open 9:00–17:00. Entry costs 300 yen on normal days and 700 on the two days when the statue is shown. Nankai bus 410 or 411 from Kawachinagano Station, twelve minutes, Kanshinji bus stop.
