The climbing kiln of the old Yoshidagama is still in place, a national Historic Site.

The site preserves the climbing kiln (登窯) of the old Yoshidagama, together with the remains of the manufactory owner's residence. It is a nationally designated Historic Site (国指定史跡), not a reconstruction: the kiln ruins are the real ones, brought to light by excavation, and you can visit them where they were once in use.

Kutani-yaki was born in the seventeenth century in the village of Kutani, but production stopped after about a century; it was the Yoshidagama kiln, active here in Yamashiro Onsen in the nineteenth century, that revived the technique and gave rise to modern production. The kiln ruins, excavated and made safe, are now protected as a national Historic Site.

ℹ️ Open 9:00–17:00 (last entry 16:30), closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays). Tickets: under-75s 350 yen, 75 and over 170 yen, high school students and younger free. Wheel-throwing and decorating experiences by booking, from 3,300 to 6,600 yen. In Yamashiro Onsen, reachable by bus from Kaga-Onsen Station.
