Twenty-eight LED manhole covers, the first in Japan, light up on the pavement every evening.
Installed on 1 August 2020 by the Tokorozawa water service together with KADOKAWA, they are twenty-eight self-illuminating manhole covers (27 different designs) along the pavement that leads from Higashi-Tokorozawa Station to Tokorozawa Sakura Town: in the evening they light up like illuminations, each with the illustration of a different series. ⚠️ Correction: the description already in the catalogue calls them ‘the first in the world’, but the direct source consulted (電撃ホビーウェブ, which reports the phrase ‘日本初となる「LEDマンホール」’) speaks of a Japanese first, not a world first; the official KADOKAWA page makes no claim to being first.
Twenty-eight LED manhole covers (the first of this kind in Japan) installed by the Tokorozawa water service together with KADOKAWA on 1 August 2020, along the pavement that leads from Higashi-Tokorozawa Station to Tokorozawa Sakura Town. They illustrate 27 KADOKAWA series. Permanent installation.
ℹ️ They light up from 17:00 to 02:00, powered by solar panels. The route starts from the station forecourt: the position of each individual cover is not published; you find them by walking.
