The planetarium dome measures 35 metres: one of the largest in the world, rebuilt in 2011.
You sit down, the hall goes dark and above your head a sky thirty-five metres wide lights up, with an operator giving a live commentary from a seat in the middle of the audience. In the other two buildings you do things instead of looking at them: in one hall you watch an air vortex nine metres high, in another you walk into minus thirty degrees (the first room of its kind in Japan), and in a third an electric spark four metres long jumps across. Outside, in the middle of the park, stands the silver sphere that can be seen from half the city.
The museum occupies three buildings (理工館, 生命館 and 天文館) inside Shirakawa Park, about 5 minutes’ walk from Fushimi Station, on the Higashiyama and Tsurumai lines. Under a naming-rights contract, the sign now carries the official name FUJIなごや科学館. The current planetarium opened in March 2011, replacing the one from 1962: the museum describes its dome as 「世界最大級」, that is, among the largest in the world (not the largest, which is a different claim and one repeated many times elsewhere). The three buildings are the 理工館 (physics and technology), the 生命館 (life) and the 天文館 (astronomy), which is the one that contains the dome.

It is the model for the 奥旅科学館, the science museum under which the LABO is hidden and where Lu is taken, in the eighth episode of the anime, ‘坂本商店 VS LABO’. What makes it instantly recognisable is the planetarium: a dome 35 m in diameter, the largest in the world according to Guinness, whose silver sphere juts out from the body of the building exactly as in the drawing.
