1.8 km of Edo-period houses, the only ones on the Tōkaidō to have survived all together.

For 1.8 km, between the Higashi-Oiwake and the Nishi-Oiwake, house after house shows the cage windows (虫籠窓, mushiko-mado) and low mezzanines of Edo-period architecture: it is the only post station on the old Tōkaidō to have preserved its entire urban fabric, not an isolated building. The Jizō-in temple, at the centre of the town, dates from 741 and is a national Important Cultural Property in its own right.

The forty-seventh of the 53 post stations of the Tōkaidō, the old road between Edo and Kyoto. Divided into four districts (Kizaki, Nakamachi, Shinjō, Kitaura), it has been an Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings since 1984.

ℹ️ Free access, public street. About 5 minutes' walk from JR Seki Station. Shops and house museums open to the public have their own hours, generally daytime.
