Stretch of coast in the town of Otobe (Hokkaido), known as 滝瀬海岸 or ‘シラフラ’: a white cliff about 20 metres high that runs for about 500 metres along the Sea of Japan, on the western side of the Oshima Peninsula. The white rock is made of layers of volcanic pumice laid down on the seabed about 5 million years ago during an eruption, then lifted to the surface.
ℹ️ In 2024 a viewing park was opened with a rest area and two public toilets, open 9:00–17:00 from April to November; car park with 10 parking spaces plus one disabled space and one coach space. You reach it on foot (about 500 m) from the Kuguriwa car park; the recommended time to visit is sunset, because the wall faces west and takes on colour in the afternoon.
