A business active for 150 years: you knead your own kamaboko by hand in the real workshop.
Run by a kamaboko company (the steamed white-fish paste, one of the most widespread traditional foods in Japan) that has been active for over a hundred and fifty years, the museum pairs its shop with a real artisan workshop in full view. In the daily hands-on class you knead fish surimi by hand and shape it on a small wooden board, or around a bamboo stick to make chikuwa, which you eat as soon as it comes off the flame.
Museum and teaching workshop run by the Suzuhiro company, a kamaboko maker since the Edo period, in the ‘Kamaboko no Sato’ complex in Odawara.
ℹ️ Open 9:00–17:00, free admission. Paid hands-on classes every day. Two minutes' walk from Kazamatsuri Station on the Hakone Tozan mountain railway.
