Seven izakaya on a ‘shusse’ theme: the rise to power of Ieyasu, who ruled from here.
Inside the WAVE building, in the Sakanamachi neighbourhood, seven independent eateries (from sushi to robatayaki, from yakitori to mixed fried food) share a single izakaya-themed corridor, which can hold up to 216 people in all. The name ‘出世’ (shusse, ‘social advancement’) evokes Hamamatsu as the ‘castle of promotion’, from which Tokugawa Ieyasu set out for national power.
It is a recent food alley, designed to bring evening life to the historic centre of Hamamatsu. Its opening year is reported inconsistently: 2021 or 2023. The Sakanamachi neighbourhood traces its history back to 1600, when Tokugawa Ieyasu built the castle here.
ℹ️ The alley (a shared corridor) is always accessible; the individual venues keep evening izakaya hours, typically from late afternoon into the night. Inside the WAVE building (formerly the Popolo Building), in the Yūrakugai neighbourhood near Hamamatsu Station.
